New Gadget

Christmas #1 in Western Massachusetts was so peaceful. It’s always relaxing to be there. I hit up two of my favorite coffee shops, a latte for each morning, ate tasty food with my family, and snuggled with three 10-month old kittens by a roaring fire. C’est bon. (Note: Dad and Annie are so lucky to have THREE adorable, friendly cats instead of one mean cat)

I also received some amazing gifts from my family! This is one of the highlights:

A brand-new NOOK! Living in NYC, I get through about a book a week on the train so an e-reader was at the top of my wishlist. I picked up the Jack Spade case at Barnes & Noble today, way on sale. I want my Nook to be dressed very stylishly and I’ve been liking this paint-dipped canvas look a lot lately. I haven’t bought any books yet (mostly because I’m in mid-read of an actual paper book), but I’ve started my wishlist.

ALSO, I took this photo with another wonderful new gadget. I’ve been itching for a baby camera for awhile, so I asked for (AND RECEIVED!!!) the Canon Powershot SD1400 IS Digital Elph. It’s so little, it can fit inside the coin purse in my wallet (which means it’s going everywhere with me). Nook, meet Baby Camera. Baby Camera, meet Nook. Get cozy, you’ll be spending a lot of time together.

This book is incredible. As was the Fountainhead. I need the escape so much these days. It’s worth the time investment (1000+ pages). Get both HERE.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION AND THE MAN IN THE ORANGE CROCS

…should I go out on a limb and just go to culinary school? It’s now been my “backup” career for YEARS, and lately all I want to do is have people over so I can cook for them and fill their bellies and then fill them all over again if I can con them into staying for another meal.

The above quotation is from my last post. Since it hit the internet waves, I have gotten an overwhelming response from friends and family that I should indeed attend culinary school. The thought of switching careers has become more sharply realistic since my coworkers and I are facing the elimination of our jobs (if the district initiates full-day Kindergarten for the 2009-10 school year). As I continue to scratch my head about all of this, I am also continuing to cook up a storm… perhaps more than ever.

Three of my most wonderful friends came to visit this weekend (hi guys!), and for once I chose to welcome them with a lunch instead of a dinner.
