Fashion

Those of you who live on the east coast probably remember the day it was about 60 degrees in February. People were stripping layers off, setting their ankles free of winter boots, and doin’ it in the middle of the street in celebration of the spring-like weather. And though I set my ankles free, I held fast to my grain of salt, pointing out “GUYS, IT’S STILL FEBRUARY” and knowing that colder temperatures would return. Sure enough, they did, and everyone became instantly ANGRY! HOW DARE IT SNOW AFTER A 60 DEGREE DAY!?!?!?! But me and my salt, we were ok. For a bit. But now even I am anxiously awaiting spring, dying to shed a few layers like socks (one day last summer a guy driving by me in Brooklyn hollered “HEY BABY” and when I snubbed him by completely refusing to acknowledge him, he said “AAAAAH, PUT ON SOME SOCKS!” after which I immediately acknowledged him by LingOL). So as a tribute to the coming warmth (so says the groundhog, anyway), here are some of the items I’d love to add or have recently added to my spring wardrobe.

WANT: CLOGS. Occasional I think they look silly, but really I am tremendously jealous of women that have them and wear them so well. These are my two front-runners:

1. Swedish Hasbeens Slip in Super High

2. Maguba Stockholm in Silver/Wood

(Discovered on Clare Vivier‘s blog. Credit where credit is due!)

WANT: BROWN LEATHER CROSSBODY BAG. My wonderful friend Britt, ELLE.com‘s Style News Editor, has this f***ing fantastic J.W. Hulme Legacy bag that I absolutely adore. It’s a little out of my price point, but these two are MUCH more reasonable and also really lovely.

1. AutomaticSweetheart (via Etsy) Smoked Tobacco Leather Petite Cross Body Haversack

2. Clare Vivier Mini Sac

(Did you honestly think I’d get through an entire fashion-based post without a C.Vivier item? I didn’t. Also, I never really loved Le Mini Sac until I saw this image of it that she posted on her Tumblr, via somewhere else, and now I can’t really imagine having any other small brown crossbody bag. Yes, I realize I have a Clare Vivier addiction, and you know what? I’m entirely comfortable with it. You know who else is comfortable with it? The currently non-existent daughter or neice or grandaughter that will inherit my collection.)

GOT: SNEAKS. I recently ordered (and then had to exchange for a slightly smaller size – take note future purchasers) this lovely pair of Bensimon Tennis Mid Sneakers in Turquoise, and I got them way on sale! I’ve been wanting some of these dainty-sporty kicks since last year!

Tres jolie, no?

GOT: ARMY JACKET AND VIBRANT SCARF. My style-twin and co-worker Kayla recently picked up this jacket at H&M for $30!!!!! (and sported it oh-so-well on her blog HERE). I loved it so much I couldn’t resist getting my own, and while I was there I also got this bright pink and coral geometric-printed scarf.

I’m so ready to wear these CONSTANTLY.

So here I am, lusting after clogs and bags, and fantasizing about wearing light sneakers (WITHOUT SOCKS, MOTHERF***ER!). My spring break is coming up in two more weeks and we are going to GREECE!!!!!!!!! with Alex’s whole family where I’ll be wearing my spring-y thingies the whole damn time (weather permitting). And with this trip coming up, maaaaaaaaybe I will submit to my desires and purchase one of the WANT items above (C. Vivier has this whole theory about Women on the Verge of Departure that I find is TOTALLY true about me… and as you can see, she’s one of the people that makes me jealous of the clogs).

Happy Spring Fashion Hunting, all!

Step 1: Make yourself a cup of Earl Grey (Rishi makes my favorite). Add milk and sugar if you like (I do).

Step 2: Don your coziest slippers (L.L. Bean Wicked Good Slippers are perfection).

Step 3: Window shop for warmth-keeping items on Etsy (Handknit Tall Grey Wool Cloud Cowl from Rosetung).

Step 4: Gaze adoringly at an adorable cat (even if he’s sometimes a jerk. Currently, he’s watching the snow fall outside the window, trying to figure out how he can catch it).

Pleasant Snow Day: Accomplished.

This Sunday, my mom, sister, and I are shipping off to Paris to visit my brother who is living there for a year, attending grad school. Paris has a history of sophistication and glamour like no place I’ve ever been – some might say the same about New York, but when it comes to fashion here, anything goes. So, the questions nags me, what to pack?

I can’t exactly afford to purchase an all-new winter wardrobe for a week-long trip. A friend who is in fashion and travels to Paris yearly reminded me I’ll be there during a cold and rainy season. Looking ahead at the weather… mid- to upper-forties all week with light rain on most days (bummer). Jackets and scarves will be the main look for my outdoor trekking. In an effort to fully prepare myself, I started packing early this week, mixing and matching all the older, classic stuff I have with a few new key winter accessories. Here’s a sneak preview of what’s in my suitcase (items in blue are new!):

Slouchy hat ($10!) from Nordstrom Rack. Striped 3/4 sleeve shirt from Madewell. Flat Work Tote from Clare Vivier (You’d be out of your mind to think I’d bring any other handbags but my Clare Viviers to Paris).

Sunglasses from Forever 21. Vintage Tony Lama cowboy boots (I will absolutely wear these, even though it will paint a virtual American flag all over me). Cable Knit Infinity Scarf (price: cheap?) and Faux leather Bow Gloves ($10) from Uniqlo.

Striped scarf from H&M. Tri-Blend Deep-V from American Apparel. Velvet blazer from J.Crew. La Tropezienne from Clare Vivier.

Brushed Cotton Plaid Shirt from J.Crew (this is actually Alex’s, but I’m hoping he’ll let me take it so I’ll think fondly him while I’m away). Skinny Straight Jeans from Uniqlo. Metallic ballet flats from J.Crew.

Suitcase view – preliminary packing (yes, I’m planning on bringing my Frye Harness Boots as well!).

Suitcase View in Detail. Timex watch.

So there it is! those are some of the basics. I just want to be comfortable and totally stylish. I know I’m not quite the glamour type. I just can’t wait to be there! Croissants! Cafe! Baguettes! Fromage! Vin! The! Meme les pigeons!
