I have missed blogging, really and truly. My first year of grad school has been trying, but I am SO close to the end. On May 9th I will be finished with schoolwork. It’s such a novel idea! And I can’t wait. Are we there yet? Is it time for me to relax? Hopefully you’ll hear more from me then.

The weather in the Bay Area has been really really lovely lately, 70s and sunny. Although, a wise friend who has lived here longer than I expressed once that he really misses those East Coast nights where you can go out in only a t-shirt. That never happens here! Even after the warmest days the air turns quite chilly at night- at least chilly enough that you can’t get away in only a t-shirt. I’ll be back east for a couple weeks this summer and I’m so excited. I dream of it. And these things are the stuff of my dreams:

Does anyone else find that most swim “cover-ups” actually don’t cover much up? For my pale skin, it’s really a priority since I’m protecting it from rays instead of just trying to fake being more presentable. I have found that some comfortable shorts and a men’s button-down shirt are quite preferable. And sunscreen. Always wear the sunscreen.

Channeling Summer

Yesterday’s warmth and sunshine got me excited for summer attire. I know the season will feel different here in the Bay Area, but I couldn’t help envisioning this breezy ensemble when I tried on those pants (featured below) at Anthropologie yesterday. I didn’t bring them home, but I keep thinking about how comfortable they are (so soft and swishy!) and how chic I felt in them.

I know the East Coast has been experiencing some unseasonably warm days lately, so maybe someone over there can replicate this look in honor of those of us who have rainy days ahead. Pair these spotted wide-leggers with classic, clean lines and color pops.

Hairstyle to Try: Sock Bun

My dear friend Carrie asked me yesterday, “do you know about the sock bun?” I did not. She quickly schooled me, using a purple sock that I was throwing away because I had worn holes in it. Miraculous. Magical. Spectacular. SO MUCH VOLUME. My hair is long, but fine, so when I put it in a bun sans-sock it is tiny. I know not all of you have Carries in your life, so I found a goofy but informative video DIY (for the strangers out there, this is not me!):

We’ve been dealing with lots of rain showers in the Bay Area this week, so I decided to give the style a true test… a rainy day walk with the kiddos with a hood on. Here’s how the sock bun fared:

…pretty spectacularly, I would say. Definitely some frizz, but it stayed in place and now just looks appropriately messy. I’m eager to try it on a day where my hair is curlier to start. And apparently, if you sleep with the sock bun in your hair, it will have beautiful waves in the morning. In my world, there’s nothing better than a low maintenance hairstyle.
